Introduction

Over the course of almost eight years, the Two Point games have established themselves as SEGA’s reliably charming and lovable sim franchise. It’s become the sort of series that brings smiles to the faces of both critics and players.

Two Point Museum is the third instalment in the series, arriving on PC, PlayStation and Xbox in March 2025 with a customary chorus of excellent reviews and fan delight. Six months after that initial release, SEGA turned to Portal to ensure that the game’s Switch 2 launch was just as successful.

So, what was SEGA’s brief to us? Simple, really.  To produce a trailer that instantly flags the game as perfect for the Switch 2, shows plenty of gameplay, explains the game’s main features and stays true to the series’ playful, irreverent tone. And with a strict deadline to coincide with the game’s launch. Hey, no problem!

Guided tour

We jumped straight into building a tightly edited, gameplay-first trailer that landed at around fifty seconds. Gameplay arrives from the very first second, grabbing viewers by the scruff of the neck. It was important that players could quickly understand what Two Point Museum is and why it feels right at home on Switch 2. That meant clarity was the priority from the opening frame.

On the audio side, the team took the music provided and reworked it to fit the edit, shaping it around the visuals and key moments. The upbeat, soaring tone paired perfectly with the game’s bright, cheerful art style. Instead of going with a generic narrator, Portal arranged a bespoke voiceover from the game’s tannoy actor, adding an authentic Two Point touch that fans would instantly recognise.

Sound design pulled everything together, blending SEGA-supplied SFX with Portal’s own sourced effects and a careful final mix. Every on-screen moment was matched with the right audio beat, helping the trailer feel lively, polished and full of personality.

Finally, the inclusion of Switch 2 overlays reinforced the notion of Nintendo’s platform as the perfect partner for playing the game. With everything complete, Portal supplied the SEGA team with 16:9 and 9:16 versions, meaning the trailer would look pristine whether viewed on smartphones or larger screens.

A new exhibition

Feedback on our creative work from SEGA had been stellar. But they weren’t the only ones who were impressed. Nintendo also saw the trailer and loved it. And it clearly struck a chord with the Switch maker, who then asked for a version of the trailer for use in their online store, the eShop, as well as their social channels.

Nintendo don’t request assets like this for every release, so it was a great nod to the quality of our work and the effective collaboration we developed with SEGA. Nintendo’s request came with strict creative guidelines and a full approval process to accommodate.

We managed this aspect of the project from beginning to end, making sure that our work complied with the platform holder’s standards. With a watchful eye on detail, our team submitted the required builds and shepherded the assets through Nintendo’s approval process alongside the SEGA team.

To ensure these versions were region-ready, we prepared localised on-screen text for Brazil, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland. The voiceover remained the original English tannoy performance to preserve tone and delivery. The result was a set of Nintendo-compliant assets that felt native to the platform and faithful to the game’s brand.

The design gallery

Two Point Museum has a fun, cartoony vibe that the trailer needed to mirror. Our design and motion graphics became the mechanism that translated Two Point’s bright, slightly silly identity into readable and engaging visuals that would work at whatever size it was viewed in.

Our team animated the supplied key art, and created end slate and text slate sequences that made legibility on small screens a priority while echoing the game’s colourful palette and playful typography.

Transitions and animated hits were timed precisely to the music edits and VO, giving the trailer a cheeky yet cinematic rhythm. Everything from the animated lettering to the end slate was crafted so viewers could understand what they were watching in an instant and chuckle along in all the right places.

Taking the show on the road

SEGA’s UK team was delighted with the trailer. In fact, their colleagues over the pond in the United States decided to run the creative as part of a paid media campaign. We got to work, producing a performance-optimised 15-second cut that tightened everything up without losing any of the charm.

Separately, SEGA requested a bundle version for Australia with a custom end slate, and Portal delivered that variant too. Our team provided a full-length version plus a short-form cut that preserved the tone while being optimised for ad viewability and click-through.

Exit through the gift shop

This was a fast-paced project that needed equal parts precision and creativity. Our trailer jumped straight into gameplay, positioned Switch 2 as a perfect home for Two Point Museum and stayed true to the series’ humour and visual style.

Both SEGA and Nintendo were delighted with the final result, rolling the creative out across social, paid media and the official eShop.

A quick tip of the cap to SEGA, who were fantastic partners throughout this project. Clear on the brief, quick with feedback and happy to collaborate. Exactly what you want from any partner, but especially when you’re working to a tight deadline.
